First Timer

I am NOT a writer. I'm not even what you would call a "reader". And, most importantly, I am the furthest thing from "computer savvy". That being said, this is the beginning of a dream I have had for a long time. A dream to put down in writing, whether to ever be read by another or not, the experiences I have had in relation to RACISM.

My blog (whatever that is) title is controversial, I know, when put in the context I have intended. This first entry, I simply want to explain the title. The title, Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, is how I feel on a regular basis. The reason I feel this way is because:

  • I am a white woman, who does not agree with racism.
  • I live in the Southern, U.S., however I was raised in the city of Atlanta, GA, and was a "minority" in my area as a child.
  • I recently (9 months ago) married my longtime best friend, and love, who happens to be a black man.
  • I am surrounded by white people, especially in my work environment ( I work with people who live in every town in the Southeast ) who make racial comments about African Americans, in front of me and to me, all the time. Comments that I am 100% positive they would NEVER make in front of a black person, but they assume are safe to say in front of me.
  • I am continually conflicted with the decision to either "be silent and still" or "defend and educate"; the latter choice ultimately ending in outing myself as one half of an Oh-So-Controversial Interracial Couple!

There is so much to say. So many experiences. So many feelings. And so much I want to hear back from others who have walked in similar shoes!

Let the BLOGGING begin!

Peace and blessings,

MHH
